Nanny Job in Vancouver, British Columbia

Individual
UPDATE: we have found our nanny for the time being, we might or might not need someone around May 2024. Please check in later if you're interested! [Please note that we're unable to sponsor foreign workers because we're French, and immigration programs require a Canadian employer.] Hi there! We're a French family with a 3.5 year old toddler who needs a nanny while we work full-time at home. We're living on a very remote island, Lasqueti, so we need a nanny who could come live closeby, on the island - we provide a separate cabin near our house (we don't ask for rent). We currently have a wonderful nanny, but she will be going on new adventures next Fall (2023). We need someone full-time starting early 2024. But we'd also be grateful to find someone available for the mid-October to mid-December period (or long term right away but we'll be away for a month or two in the Winter). Living on this island is quite an adventure, it's an off-grid lifestyle. It comes with its challenges but hopefully its life lessons too! You can't bring a car here, and the passenger ferry runs twice daily 5/7 days. There are not many services available - a small general store, a post office. You can have your groceries delivered to the ferry. We use solar power, collect rainwater, use firewood for heating. We have outdoor toilets. But on the upside, we live in the woods, ten minutes away from the beach! Deer and hummingbirds are our main neighbours. We are quiet, private people who enjoy nature, reading, watching movies, going for a walk… We want our kiddo to grow up surrounded by beautiful trees and to learn to love nature and books. He has a few food allergies and severe eczema which can be bad at times, but he is an adorable, easy-going, fun little boy. Since both my partner and I work full time (at home), we need someone to take care of our baby mornings and afternoons, for example 9:30-12pm. and 2pm-5pm on weekdays (no needs during weekends, lunchtime and nights). This would be flexible though depending on if the little needs a nap or has a slow start..., but expect to work around 25 hours a week (up to 30 if you're fine doing yard work too). We look for someone who can be stimulating for our little one: ideally teaching him music, taking him on walks, making him paint, taking him to visit other kids, reading books, singing, playing, teaching him English, but also enjoying quiet moments… There is no daycare, no library, no fixed organized activities on the island so we need someone who can create those opportunities! But the house is surrounded by huge woods, there's the beach not too far... and there are a few other kids around the same age on the island. We would like to propose an arrangement where the nanny lives in their own cabin (no rent, you just pay for your own propane) next to the main house. This way you'd have your own private space when not working. The cabin has a nice terrace, a living area with a woodstove, a bedroom, a small washroom with cold filtered water and dry toilets. There's a very basic outdoor kitchen corner (gas stove and fridge). We provide firewood, wifi... Your private shower is located in the main house at the lower level, where you'd also have access to the washing machine, etc. We're open to anyone but would prefer having a young couple staying here, because life can be lonely here for a single person, especially in the cold season when it's difficult to bike around, and there aren't many things happening on the island. But if you like calm and nature, and maybe an opportunity to focus on personal creative activities and projects, or remote studies, that might be the right fit for you. In general we're looking for someone who shares our interests and values (antiracism, antisexism, inclusivity, envronmentalism...), is self-reliant, and won't be bored by a slow paced island life, nor scared by living conditions that might be a tad more difficult in winter. If you play an instrument, that's also a huge plus as our little one loves music! We collect half-broken instruments he can play with, like a piano, a violin, an accordion... (and also working instruments suited for his age!!) There's a quite active community on the island though, and you can often participate in music events, picnics, art exhibitions, craft fairs, etc. Please reach out if you'd like to know more.
