Nanny Job in Ottawa, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
Looking for a live in nanny to start in the fall 2022 to care for our almost 3 yr old daughter and almost 1 yr old son. We live in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut territory. It is a town of about 8000 that can only be reached by flying in from Ottawa. We have a 3 storey 4 bedroom house, and your large bedroom will be on the first floor with your own bathroom (shared laundry). Our bedrooms are in the 3rd floor, so you will have plenty of privacy. The large sunny window, overlooks the town and at night you can watch the northern lights dance from bed! From our house, it is a 20 minute walk to the small downtown (there's a cafe, two grocery stores, pool, movie theatre, gym, arenas, curling rinks, restaurants and a microbrewery). Behind our house is an endless expanse of windswept and treeless tundra. There's a dirt road (lovingly and accurately called the "Road to Nowhere") that makes for a great hike or bike ride into the tundra. We live just below the arctic circle so at the winter solstice the sun is only visible about three hours a day, while in the summer it is the land of "midnight sun." Though it can be striking when the light glistens off the ocean or lights up the snow-capped ridges, this is a Harsh climate. It is regularly -40c in the winters, the winds can be ferocious, and it is coastal so even the summer is generally cool and damp with highs around 15c. There are no trees, but an abundance of lichens, mosses, and berries...and snow. Snow begins in October and is melting by June. Iqaluit has a very young population, and you will find that making friends is easier then one would think! It is very isolated, so any time we are leaving Iqaluit for a break we'll cover your roundtrip plane ticket down to Ottawa (we leave every 6-8 weeks, even if for just a weekend). That can be a great jumping-off point to explore Canada or the US on your own, if you'd like, or you're welcome to vacation with our family. I work as a police officer and my husband works as a mechanic. We enjoy curling, getting outside for walks, playing board games, cooking, etc…. We are offering a guaranteed 30 hrs a week, with all your weekends off. Our daughter will be 3 in November and loves to read, learn, arts, crafts and going outside. She loves her brother and is eager to help out around the house, especially with her brother. Our son will be 1 in September and is a very easy go lucky little guy. He was born 6 weeks premature, and has Down syndrome, which means that he develops and reaches his milestones slower then other kids, but he is a delight to be around and enjoys the same things other babes his age. We view living in the Arctic as an experience of a lifetime, that few people get to experience, but those who do, absolutely love it. If this has pulled at the adventurous side of you and would like to know more, please send me a message!
