Nanny in Kingston, Ontario

I'm an
Agency / Company
Hi! my name is Audrey. I am a nanny who is well trained and look forward to helping your family. Can't wait to chat with you soon. About myself: I’m very positive and friendly. I really love the outdoors, culture, travel and languages! In my spare time I enjoy swimming, hiking, art, music, theatre and some yoga. I have 2 younger siblings and I love spending time with my friends and family. I have always loved working with kids and plan to work as a french teacher eventually. I have a lot of experience working with children and adolescents which I described below. As a French Immersion student and a French Teacher candidate (I am currently enrolled in teachers college), I am more than happy to help any students in the family with French or any of their other homework. I am also more than happy to give swimming lessons at your house if you have a pool (at my regular lesson rate). My Work and Volunteer Experience: Assistant Director and Stage Manager, June - August 2014 - 2..., Kingsway Conservatory of Music - Teens Musical Theatre Camp This experience has enabled me to build upon my existing foundation of communicating with youth and serving their diverse needs. I worked collaboratively alongside the students and co-workers to help put on a musical in the 2 week intensives. I was responsible for facilitating group warm ups and vocal exercises as well as choreographing and directing scenes. I also worked one-on-one with students to memorize their lines during this short period of time. Together, we worked to develop different vocal tones and physicality for unique character. As everyone learns differently, I made use of different technics in order to develop a tactic that would work well for each student. This has since driven me to continuously foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment where students are able to support one another and feel supported in return. Coach, September 2017 - April 2017, Queen’s University’s Jump With Queen’s Jump we travel to local high schools in the area during their lunch block. We organize activities, play various sports and games with the students. Our goal is to keep adolescents active and engaged in an environment that can become so focused on technology. French Tutor, June - August 2017, french immersion children in my neighbourhood I tutored french immersion children in my neighbourhood ages 6 - 12. Together we practiced reading, writing and oral communication. I prepared a variety of activities and lesson plans that I knew would be fun and enriching while reaching their academic goals. During this experience I was able to create new effective ways to teach fun lessons that genuinely interested young minds. Volunteer, January 2016 - Present, Swimability With Swimaility I teach accessible one-on-one swimming lessons for children with disabilities. I encourage students to develop confidence in the water and motivate them. Together, we practice water-safety as well as swimming skills and technics. Disabled children are ten times more likely to suffer from a submersion related injury than the average child, knowing this I ensure that my lessons focus on important fundamentals of safety in and around the water. Seeing as many disabilities are accompanied by a communication disorder, this challenged me to make use of both verbal and non-verbal communication. I made observation as to how each student responded differently to a variety of factors such as sound, body language, or tone. While some would pull your hand in the direction they want to go, others might solely rely on sounds, facial expressions, or motion. From this experience, I learned and practiced different methods to obtain and maintain my student’s interest while ensuring that my teaching is accessible to all. Head Lifeguard/Instructor September - April 2014, - Present, Queen’s University Athletics and Recreation Centre Pool I was initially employed as a lifeguard and instructor during my first year at Queen’s (fall 2014). However, in early September of 2016 and promoted to Head Lifeguard/Instructor, a position I really treasure. While at the Queen’s pool I supervise pool area for recreational swimmers, local lessons, and Queen’s University teams. I supervise the other lifeguards and instructors on duty as well as organize and oversee the swimming lessons. I am responsible for maintaining and monitoring chemical and water levels of the pool in order to ensure its safety for all. I also practice building team work amongst the other staff with inclusive and informative staff trainings. During the lessons I communicate with parents on a regular basis, addressing any concerns they may have and making them aware of their child’s milestones and/or improvements. Through this experience, I have learned a great deal as to what it takes to build a great team that supports one another and works cohesively. Head Lifeguard and Lesson Supervisor, April - August 2014 - Present, Thorncrest Village Pool As head lifeguard and lesson supervisor, I organized and coordinated swimming lessons, including emailing parents and scheduling the Instructors. I was also responsible for scheduling the lifeguards and coordination the pool staff. Over the summers, I organize fun, dynamic events for the community such as; race nights, pool opening party, pool closing party, movie night, midnight swim, Canada Day party, community barbecues etc. I also taught both private swimming lessons and large classes to all ages from infants, to adults training for marathons. In addition, I taught first aid to adolescents. In my four years at thorncrest, I learned fundamentals of teaching and how to truly interest my students in what they were learning. I also learned how oversee large classes sizes and teach to all students while also giving individual feedback. Coach June - August 2014 - 2..., Pickleheadz Sports Camp I played various games with the campers such as dodge ball, capture the flag (non-elimination), drawing with chalk, scavenger hunts, water balloon challenges, relay races and many other team building activities. I learnt how to keep young energetic children engaged for the entire day without the use of technology. Orientation Leader - April - September 2015 - Queen’s University While being an orientation leader I was responsible for leading a group of 25 first year students and ensure they felt comfortable and welcome in their new environment. Together, the other orientation leaders and I worked to provide a support system for the students and introduce them the life at Queen’s. Our goal was to foster a welcoming, accepting and encouraging environment as this can be a nervous and stressful transition for many students. any first year students are away from home for the first time and it is important to make them feel safe and welcome. Being and Orientation leader was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had and is definitely a highlight of my time at Queen’s. Overnight Camp Counselor, July - August 2012, - ..., Saddlewood Equestrian Camp I was camper for 7 years and then eventually became Counsellor In Training followed by a counsellor for 2 years. I was responsible for a cabin of 12, 7-9 year old girls whom I did everything with, from brushing their hair, putting on sunscreen or reading them stories at night. During the activity blocks, I was the head lifeguard. I was in charge of supervising other lifeguards, making sure all pool rules and regulations were being met and coordinated the swimming lessons. I was also in head of the drama department and organized the drama activities in addition to and directing and writing the play. During my time at Saddlewood, I learned a lot about problem solving and how to encourage campers to be cooperative and support one another. Volunteer Spring 2014, Orphanage in Peru At the orphanage, I volunteering with children ages 5 - 16. Together, we play countless games, and sang songs. I read with children and taught them basic english as well as helped prepare meals and organized a variety of activities. Considering my knowledge of the Spanish language was basic, my time with these children really challenged my communication skills and pushed me to rely on more than just speech in order to interacted effectively with them. Recommendation Letters are available upon request :)
