Hi! My name is Amy and I'm currently pursuing a degree in children's book editing and publishing. Children are my passion in life, and I connect well with children of all ages. I am caring, friendly, and hardworking. During my undergraduate degree I volunteered in a research play lab with preschool children at the University of Ottawa. I have also taken a variety of relevant courses in child psychology, including family psychology, childhood social development, and psychological disorders among children and adolescents. Philanthropy and community service are also very important to me. I volunteered with Elisabeth Bruyre hospital caring for elderly disabled individuals throughout university. I have also gone on two volunteer trips to Cape Town, South Africa where I helped facilitate education and childcare among those less fortunate. I am very physically active and encourage a healthy lifestyle in children. I am able to teach and play tennis, basketball, horseback riding, badminton, and a variety of other sports. I have many relevant certifications including first aid and CPR, food safe, and babysitting. From the age of 15, I have cared for children of all ages consistently over the last 8 years as a babysitter. I have also been actively involved as a fundraiser for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, specifically the mental health wing of the hospital.

Amy took care of our 15 month old son for 20 hours/week from April to June of 2017. She was excellent. The only reason we are not continuing with her is because we finally got a spot in daycare (after 18 months on several waitlists). Our son was just developing stranger anxiety when Amy started to look after him. She was great at putting him at ease with games and activities. He can also be a picky eater, and she always managed to give him a variety of foods, and never just had him fill up on the bottle while we were gone. She had no problem with diaper changes and giving him naps when he was tired, and took him for walks around the city when the weather was nicer. We were always comfortable leaving our son with Amy. That peace of mind is essential. She was also professional and organized with scheduling and invoicing, etc. I highly recommend Amy for any childcare position and am happy to provide more information on request.

Amy was of great help to our family this summer during our visit to Toronto. We have a multilingual home with English not as the first language and Amy adapted very well and tried to pick up our 2 year old daughter's frequently used vocabulary to bond with her. Even if our daughter was being difficult, Amy would be patient and understood that kids sometimes need just a bit of extra time to get used to a new person. A lot of the help was also just to manage the daily chores around the house and Amy helped with any task without hesitation. Specially with a new born baby also at home, her easy going attitude was very helpful. Being punctual was definitely important for her and she was always very fair in totalling her hours every week. We are very pleased to have had her as a mother's helper and nanny this summer and wish her all the best with the next family!
