I'm an
Individual
Hi! My name is Cheryl. I am a Special Needs Education Assistant who is available for occasional or ongoing part-time babysitting/respite work, in the evenings or on weekends. I am also available in the summer full-time. I have been working as a Special Needs Educational Assistant for almost six years now. I have worked as a Teacher Assistant as well, with English Language Learners (ELLs). I have completed recess supervision, first-aid duties, assisted individuals and groups of students with school work, in and outside of the classroom, etc. I taught English in South Korea to grade six students and various other school age children/adults in the Saturday program. This job included participating in club activities (dance, singing, drama, and art), after school hours. Other experience that I have working with children/youth include: working as a Respite Worker with special needs students who were elementary school children, being employed as a Hall Monitor in a Charter School, working with adolescent males in a Children’s Aid Society group home as a Behavioural Therapist, for children with developmental and behavioural problems, being a Teacher Assistant in a grade 7/8 classroom, assisting in teaching a Crime Prevention Seminar to young offenders, working with children from volunteering at the Ottawa Police Youth Centre, and completing various activities as a volunteer, with children from The Boys and Girls Club. I have a current Standard First Aid Level C CPR/ AED Certificate and police check. Although I do not have a lot of experience working with younger children/infants, I love little children. I have helped out in kindergarten classes when required, while working as an Education Assistant in the past. I currently work in a kindergarten class three days a week as part of my daily schedule. I also supervised kindergarten students a lot when the school was short lunchroom supervisors, when I was working as a Hall Monitor. I have a B.A. in Law and a B.A. (Honours) in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a concentration in Sociology, both from Carleton University. I also possess a Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESL/TEFL) Certificate with a specialization in TOEFL (100 hours total). I have obtained a Child Development Worker Certificate that was issued on August 19, 2013 with Alberta Children and Youth Services. I have been working as a Special Needs Educational Assistant for a little over four years now. I have worked as a Teacher Assistant as well with English Language Learners (ELLs).
