I began working in childcare after finishing the babysitters safety course at 13 years old- though I knew I had a passion for child care well before then! I worked for several parents in my town as well as The Parent link Centre, an organization aimed to help disadvantaged parents improve their living standards. After graduating I moved to city and worked for a daycare. There I got my Level 1 childcare certificate and first aide. I worked with teachers to develop routines and create activities for children of all ages. My goal is to keep children active and engaged while they are in my care. I love getting messy and have been known to start mud fights or finger painting games. I believe it important for children to have a wide birth in order to experiment with their individual creativity. I do this through cooking with the children playing music, creating art and playing outdoors. I also believe teaching children household chores and how to clean after their activities is important and will often make it part of the activity. Most of my childcare experience has been with 1-3 years olds, though I am also comfortable with new borns and older children. When working with toddlers that are still learning to speak I often introduce simple sign language as this is easier for them to use while they are transitioning into comprehensive word use. I have found this helps reduce frustration and aides them to pick on spoken words faster. I also have experience potty training toddlers, working with children with mental and health disabilities and have spent several months tutoring young children to read. I would love to work for a family that is open minded and willing to try new things. I enjoy routine and so would love something with regular hours as this is often much easier on the child.
