Hello, I'm Cass!

Nanny in Burnaby

Hello, I'm Cass! I just spent the last year teaching in Korea. After completing my degree in Political Science, I really wanted to travel and work. Korea was the perfect opportunity to do both! I spent an entire year teaching at a private school in one of the world\'s largest cities...Seoul! I was teaching children ages 3-15, all with differing English abilities. I worked alone in all of my classes, and I did all my own preparation. This sometimes meant that I didn\'t have any breaks for 8 hours (including no lunches!), but I would rather have a good lesson than take a break. I\'m a pretty high energy person anyways, so I almost prefer it that way. When I first started teaching, I was pretty overwhelmed. I\'d never taught children before (although I have taught English to adult students), and there was very little supervision. By the end of the year, I was responsible for everything from setting up out-of-school fieldtrips to Christmas concerts, and I loved every second of it. Now that I\'m back in Canada, I want to continue to work with children. I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would, and I find it a really fulfilling job. Don\'t get me wrong - it\'s not all roses all of the time. But with that said, at this point I feel like I could handle anything that came my way! Once you\'ve taught 12 kindergarten children who speak a different language from you at the same time, you kind of feel like you can take on anything! I can\'t wait to hear from you! Take care! I worked as an elementary school teacher in Korea. I taught ages anywhere from 3-15 years old, and all of them with varying degrees of English abilities. I taught 8 classes a day - with a focus on kindergarten and daycare in the mornings, and older children in the afternoons. I worked independently throughout the day, and created my own lesson plans, book work, homework, activities, games, and field trips. I also privately tutored the kids and was responsible for writing reports on their progress and behavior to their parents. I really enjoyed working with the kids, and seeing them learn and grow made me want to continue to work with children back here in Canada.
