Hello families! My name is Justine Paul and I am a creative and passionate teacher. I love working with children and it's what I plan on doing for the rest of my life. I am a qualified English, Science and Art teacher and have experience teaching students from 9-18 years. My greatest strength as a teacher is my creativity. My lessons engage pupils by teaching content with imaginative activities, which reduces the risk of poor behaviour or apathy. I pair this with cooperative learning strategies, promoting learning and fostering respect and friendships among diverse groups of students. Creation is at the top of Bloom’s pyramid. When teachers spend too much time focusing on the lower levels of Bloom’s taxonomy, higher order thinking skills aren’t developed. Each of my lessons give students an opportunity to be creative in some way. I have used these strategies in both English and Science lessons and they have proven very effective. My students make progress in every lesson and they enjoy the time they spend making it. My passion for teaching and learning and for my subject matter is another quality that makes me a great teacher. I have had a love of learning since I demanded my father teach me to read at the age of three. My own enthusiasm about learning and teaching led me to be very surprised when I began teaching full time in England. The children sitting in my classroom on the first day of school had no desire to learn, let alone to excel or create! I believe that my passion about topics I am teaching really speaks to students. Within a few months of teaching them, low level students who had never thought Shakespeare could be fun were independently breaking down metaphors in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and retelling them in their own words. I have very high expectations for all of my students and I challenge any student who is not striving to reach his or her potential. My good sense of humour is the last strength I’d like to highlight. A teacher with a good sense of humour can conquer conflict with a challenging student before it starts; can help to bring a shy student out of his or her shell; and can simply cause a child to smile or laugh for the first time during a tough day. Upon completion of my Education degree in May 2011, I took a supply teaching position with TimePlan Education in the United Kingdom. I spent 2011 doing long term occasional placements at various schools and was eventually asked to join the Hundred of Hoo Academy where I taught from April 2012 to April 2013 with both the English and Science department. I was very successful and part of a great team of teachers at the Hoo. My teaching practise improved daily and I was graded consistently good to outstanding in both teaching observations and marking scrutinies. I have enclosed letters of recommendation from the Headmaster, Head of Science and Head of English and they are all happy to be contacted if you so desired.
