Arranged vendors and entertainment for single-day events like Earth Day. Supported other staff during regular programming, such as a youth drop-in centre and adult ESL classes. Collected participant feedback and conveyed results to supervisors. Silver Lake Camp 2007-2009 Counselor Child supervision: Cared for both boys and girls, aged 7-14. Supervised female campers at night and acted as additional support for male campers during the daytime when needed. Received special training to effectively care for children with special needs (with an emphasis on campers with developmental disorders including Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, and Autism). Led a variety of sessions, including crafts, team building exercises, and water sports. St Leos Elementary School February 2013-Present Tutoring: Works one-on-one with children with special needs. Plans and implements tutoring sessions that are engaging, but that also work towards improving the childs classroom performance. Speech Club May 2013-Present Session leadership: Supervises groups of children with special needs in a camp-like environment. Ensures that children receive specialized physical support as needed, and that children with social challenges are engaged and participating. 1to1 Rehab October 2012-Present Speech and Language Support Volunteer Therapy support: Helps Speech Pathologists in school and camp environments during group sessions. Participants are mostly typically developing children between the ages of 5-13 who have speech production difficulties. Personal care: Plans and runs one-on-one sessions for children with Autism and Downs Syndrome. Sessions work toward goals established by Speech Pathologists. Goals include improving speech clarity, using iPad as a communication tool, and working on occupational deficits. Coordinating efforts with parents and teachers are an essential part of this programs success.
