Nanny in Toronto, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
Hello! I'm brand new to Toronto. a recent transplant from Texas by way of Thailand. I am a qualified teacher with lots of great experience with young children. After graduating in 2010, I started working at a Montessori school in Austin, Texas. Then, about a year ago, I moved to Thailand to teach kindergarten in a great school. Both of these experiences taught me a lot about kids! How they think, how they learn, and (most importantly) how to get them to behave how you want them to (always a challenge!). At the Montessori school I learned how to respect a child's needs and meet them, without just giving in to whatever he/she wanted. I learned how to turn every walk/talk/random activity into a learning experience. I learned the importance of teaching children self-discipline and independence. In the kindergarten, I learned how to keep children focused, even when they didn’t want to. I learned no matter how hell-bent a child is on running/fight/destroying things, how to get them to calm down and focus on something productive with minimal screaming and headaches. Plus, I learned a lot of great songs and activities and art projects to keep anyone entertained! Since I am brand new to the city, I have a very, very free schedule. I am in the process of finding a "real" job, but until then I am willing to take any and all baby sitting and nanny jobs. I am hoping to find a family that I can stay with long term even when I get a job that fills my schedule more. More than a particular time schedule, pay, or age range I want to find a family I can get along with. The family I would like to work with most would be: - Interested in producing happy, confident, productive members of society. - Willing to work with me and my schedule, and listen to my advice. - Willing to pay a fair price, and compensate for over time and extra activities. - Enthusiastic about arts and crafts, games, and outside the home adventures. Kids that just want to watch TV make me sad. - Laid back about illness, cuts, scrapes, and childhood disappointments. Safety is always my concern and I would not jeopardize that, but children are not made of glass. - Divorced, blended, or happily married, parents should be able to get along for the good of their children. No drama please! I would NOT like to work with a family that: - Disrespects my time. Please don’t make schedule changes a habit. It’s rude. - Is pushy with their religious/cultural/political beliefs. I respect your beliefs and will promote them among your children, but please respect mine. - Expects extra favors and tasks without discussing them with me first. - Helicopter parents. You can hire a teenager or a grandmother to “watch” your children, but if you are looking for someone professional, hardworking, enthusiastic and fun who is eager to make every visit enriching and lively, call me. :) I have two years of teaching experience. First, in a Montessori school in Austin, Texas. Then, more recently, as a kindergarten teacher at one of the most prestigious schools in the south of Thailand.
