Hello, My name is Christine, I am a second-year post-secondary student - I have attended one year of University, and will be attending college in the fall for a minimum of three year for a new program. I really enjoy being with children, spending time with them, no matter what age really. I have had 2-3 years of experience with children from the ages of 2-6 years up to 12-13 years depending on the swimming class. In previous years I have been a swimming instructor for multiple children and classes. Throughout those few years as an instructor I have learned that each child is different. Each class would consist of minimum 4 to maximum of 6 children. Usually each class would be categorized by age and sometimes by the level of the child on how they swam. As stated before I learned that each child, when it comes to anything really, is very different from another - especially when learning about something new, and possibly scary. The skills that I learned in my training is to help adjust my plans in order to have each child happy in the water, enjoying themselves and showing mom and dad that they can do it on their own. Every lesson I would plan a number of activities that would allow each child to try something new. I would plan what the children would be doing, when we would do it, what they would use, etc. If a parent had something that they wanted their children to learn, I would add the want into the plan to see how the child/children did with that want of the parent, and then determine what the child needed - this also depended on the level the child was at in swimming. My skills let me be able to help a child be successful in any aspect that they wish to be successful in. Every time that a child knew that they succeeded in something there was a huge smile on their face that made everything I was doing worth while. It also made the parents happy because they knew their child was happy in what they were doing, and they were there to see it. If the child is happy, the parents are happy. This is the main point I have learned in being a swimming instructor. Being a swim instructor taught me not only how to care for children in a pool when they are fearful of something they are in but also to care for a child out of water. I enjoy cooking, and baking to begin with, I enjoy making the child happy. That is what really matters to me. Thank-you for your time, Christine My experiences with children are from being a swim instructor. I would deal with children from the ages of 2-3 years old to 12 year old\'s, and on occasion I would be a substitute teacher for another teacher who had either younger children or older children. Each young class would be a minimum of three children, and a maximum of 6 children - the same goes for the older children\'s classes.
