Nanny in Miramichi, New Brunswick

Hello! My name is Tessa. I just moved to Dalhousie, NB from Kitchener, ON to reconnect with my family and to start a new life by the beautiful ocean. I now live in Miramichi, NB. I usually spend my days indulging in hobbies such as painting, crafts, baking, reading, and writing. I also enjoy watching movies, playing with my dog and cats, drinking coffee, and playing crib with my parents. For the past 6 years I've spent my summers as a counsellor at an overnight summer camp. The camp caters to children aged 6 to 18 who come from families involved in various services like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Children's Aid Society, and corrections. The camp also caters to children with special needs such as Downs Syndrome, Crohn's, ODD, Autism Spectrum, and different dietary restrictions such as Halal, vegetarian, gluten and lactose intolerance. My first four summers were spent as a counsellor in "Regular Camp". I had a cabin of 6-8 girls of varying ages and abilities with the assistance of a co-counsellor. Our duties we to wake up the campers, help them with their morning routines, bring them to breakfast where we would eat family style as a cabin group, then each cabin group (there were 7-8 per week) would clean an area of camp during what we called "Sparkle Time". After "Sparkle Time" was finished, it would be time for their first activity. At this time, the cabin groups would be mixed into different activities. Different counsellors would be in charge of programming and running an activity for 6-14 campers. The programs that I ran were Drama Games in my first, second, and third summer, and Arts & Crafts in my fourth and sixth summer. After the morning activities were finished, it would be time for lunch where we would, again, eat family style as a cabin group. After lunch, the cabin groups would spend an hour together bonding and having meaningful experiences. After that there would be two more activities, then dinner, and to end the day, the entire camp would get together to have a fire or play a game. The campers would then get ready for bed with the help of their counsellors. During my third, fourth, fifth, and sixth summers, I was involved in the camp's leadership programs. The two programs, one 2-week and one 4-week program focused on building and strengthening leadership skills in campers aged 14-18. These campers learned skills such as communication, responsibility, goal setting, teamwork, and self/group management. Graduates from the 2-week program would be invited to apply for the 4-week program the following summer, and graduates from the 4-week program would be invited to apply for a staff member position the following summer. The past few summers I have had the pleasure of working as co-workers with some of the graduates of the 4-week program.
