Alexandra Penny worked for me as an After School Programmer for two years with the Town of Sackville. Her job responsibilities include planning, facilitating and evaluating our outdoor-based Trailblazers After-School Program. From the first day of her employment, Alexandra has proven that she is a very focused and driven person, as she instantly took the initiative to make the program her own. She has always been incredibly resourceful, never hesitating to reach out to community groups or the Mount Allison University student associations to generate ideas and provide expertise to the program. Alexandra has been partnered with four different co-workers since her employment began, and has never hesitated to act as mentor with whomever she was working. She has displayed patience and understanding when issues have come up and has gladly reported back to me, as her manager, when necessary. She has also demonstrated a great deal of independence. I have been completely confident that Alexandra will conduct herself in a professional manner and I know she has been great with the children and with communicating with parents whenever necessary. That confidence I have in Alexandra has allowed me to have a minimal presence at her programs. Due to her meticulous planning and outstanding structure with the children, Alexandra has been able to offer a meaningful program, despite working with upwards of 24 grade 3 and 4 children at one time. She has developed very successful strategies for working with a child or group of children that may be disruptive, and she has maintained a consistent message with all of the children and parents over the span of each program she has offered. Alexandra has also provided the Town with a report each semester she has worked, outlining the activities that were performed with the program. The information her has provided is invaluable to the Town as we plan for the long-term goals of the Trailblazer program. The information she provides is relevant, succinct and well organized. To summarize, I feel that Alexandra's proficiency in solving problems, working independently or as part of a team, handling responsibility, and communicating both internally and with clientele are all key qualities I love to see from an employee. Alexandra would be a significant asset to any employer lucky enough to have her. If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected] or 1-506-364-4946.
