Nanny in Peterborough, Ontario

I am currently entering my fourth year at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. I am completing a Bachelor of Education and joint-major undergraduate honours studies in International Political Economy and Business Administration. Originally from Ottawa, I have moved around much of my life, spending my childhood in the United States and visiting countries around the world, I have developed a love for travelling. The past two months I have spent abroad in Europe. Developing my independence and a greater sense of self, the time I spent travelling was an experience I will cherish and remember for the rest of my life. I worked as an Au Pair in Bologna, Italy for one month. After which, I spent the following month traveling down to the south of Italy and then across Europe. In France, Spain, Germany and Greece I was able to experience the differences in culture and livelihood across this fraction of the world. I have learnt much in the past months but have developed a strong motivation and passion for meeting new people and creating meaningful relationships. I am a hard worker, dedicated to doing well in school, while also managing a part-time job. I have over 5 years of engaging experiences working with children. In my spare time I enjoy reading, yoga and spending time with friends and family. My early childhood I spent in Ottawa, Ontario, enrolled in a French immersion program until grade 3. My father received an employment opportunity in Orlando, Florida, allowing us to spend the next three years in an amazing experience. While in the American education system, I was identified as a Gifted Learner in grade 3, allowing me to gain educational opportunities I would not have been able to receive otherwise. From an early age I loved and thrived at school and consistently had a book wherever I went. I have always wanted to see and understand how the world works and why it is the way it is. My family has always been a strong support system in developing my love for learning. From an early age my parents challenged me academically and also encouraged me to develop a positive social life. Growing up I played soccer, swam competitively, and played rugby throughout high school. In the summers that we were living in the U.S., my mother drove my older sister and I home to Ottawa to spend the summer months at our cottage on White Lake. These days I still find myself wanting to spend most of my time outdoors and in nature. My mother has a large family of eight older siblings. With each of them having children of their own, I have a large extended family. Therefore, from a young age I had the pleasure of spending time with young children. My passion for teaching began in high school when I took part in a Peer Tutoring and Teaching Assistant program. I also spent my years in high school, nannying for my single-parent neighbour. The young girl was 6 months when I began taking care of her and I still maintain contact with her now whenever I am home from school. Ultimately, this was one of the most amazing opportunities I've ever had. Spending time with this family made me realize how much I would enjoy teaching as a career. Therefore, this summer when I will be off from school, I hope to develop further experience but combine it with the excitement of travel. Traditionally every summer I work full-time in Peterborough or go home to visit family in Ottawa. However, this year I would love to experience and learn about a new city.
