Nanny in Toronto, Ontario

I'm an
Agency / Company
Throughout my life, I have been working with children. I used to help my family as a babysitter, taking care of my cousins and the neighbors' children. I also took care of babies and children of all ages in the church that I attended; sometimes with musical works, choral for Christmas and other holidays, reading stories, playing guitar, and making crafts. After finishing high school (December, 2009), I attended college to be a teacher, and I also started a traineeship (January, 2010) in a public kindergarten school, where I was a trainee for two years. I helped students with activities, personal hygiene, food, bathing, changing clothes, and activities inside and outside of class. As a priority, I assisted children with special needs in the classroom. In 2012, I was offered a teaching position in a private school in my city. I worked for almost 4 years, with 4 different classes, dealing with students ranging from 1 year old to 5 years. As a teacher, I always worked hard to give the children a safe and fun environment, with diverse activities, lots of music, work with motor coordination, food activities, colors, textures, shapes, smells. I emphasized sharing, respect and care for others. I always had good communication with parents of my students. I used to document the children´s activities of the day, so parents knew what their child was learning and doing throughout their time in school. In the year 2015, I decided to improve my English and thought that coming to the US as an au pair would provide me the opportunity to accomplish this goal. I was also exited to learn about a culture that I have always been interested in, traveling, meeting new people and working with kids. Jackie and Jonathan (My currently host parents) had one video Skype with me and we had a "MATCH". In September 2015 I started working for them, taking care of two adorable boys (age 13 and 15) and a beautiful special girl (age 9) with “RETT SYNDROME” (a rare genetic disorder that affects the way the brain develops). We had an incredible year. I consider them more than just my host family. They are my family here in the United States. I worked for them, taking care of the kids and the dog (I love pets and I am comfortable taking care of them) when they traveled to Germany and Alaska, and of course, date nights. I kept the house clean, and never had any problems. Anything that did arise was always solved by talking. We decided to extend another year, but unfortunately my exchange program is nearing the end. They need to find another au pair and I am already trying to find my new host family. So, as you can see, I have been working with kids for years and I hope I can continue to help more families with their children and experience new places and cultures.

Recommendations

Jackie and Jonathan C

Kareem has been our au pair for two years and has lived with us during that time. She has taken care of our 9 year-old daughter, who is severely developmentally disabled, and our two sons, ages 13 and 15. She is hardworking, responsible, empathetic and trustworthy. It has been an absolute joy to have her be a party of our family, and we are sad that cannot stay with us longer! We would HIGHLY recommend her to any family looking for a nanny.
