Doula and Caregiver who values community, nature and participatory learning

Nanny in Toronto

Hi there! My name is Sarah. I'm a recent Midwifery Grad and a Doula in the GTA. I own a car and a bicycle, and know the areas of Toronto and Mississauga very well. I also speak English, Spanish and some rusty French! Some of the services I offer currently are: Birth Doula, Post Partum care, Pregnancy support, Child care, Nutritional support, Natural remedies and wellness advice, Thai Massage Therapy, Yoga, Gardening and Light housekeeping. Let me tell you a little bit about what I value: - Community connection - Participatory learning including; daily chores, critical thinking, intuition and creative expression - Listening - Cleanliness - Healthy nourishment, behaviours and attitudes - Time outdoors and learning with nature - Love, Kindness, Gratitude and Respect As a family caregiver, I enjoy the opportunity to connect people with the communities they live in. Connecting with the community makes us feel safer, more supported, and more willing to grow and interact in a positive way with the world around us. Communities such as; your child's school, your neighbourhood, parks and simple walks around the block to get to know your kind elderly neighbours, local businesses, street names and plants etc. Allowing children to explore and feel safe in their immediate surroundings is very important, and helps build social skills, confidence, directional awareness and respect. Time outdoors is also an essential concept for me. Studies have shown that a simple walk outside can lower stress levels and make us happier. Children greatly benefit from this too, and the ability to be active outdoors and learn from their natural environments enhances their brain activity, strength and immune system. You choose the activities you would like your child (or family) to participate in, whether its short walks around the yard, park time or a bicycle ride on a safe path etc, and I am happy to accommodate and help your family become more active. I am an experienced cyclist, gardener and familiar with local trees, plants and animals and can help foster this connection for your child as well. Lastly, learning through practice and participation is an important opportunity for everyone. The ability to learn through all our senses (taste, touch, hearing, speaking, smelling) will build excellent motor skills, strong intuition and confidence in your child. We know that everyone learns differently, and in order for anyone to grow optimally, they must be allowed to interact with active participation in a safe and encouraging way. I have traveled to many places in the world and met many people, and this fusion of cultures has taught me that life can be enjoyed in the most simple ways. For example, encouraging a child to enjoy and learn something from the task of doing the dishes, cleaning their room or helping to select food for a meal will prepare them for a life of success through knowledge of the basics, but in a way they can enjoy and always learn from... Let me know how I can best serve you and your family. I'm always available through text, phone or e-mail. Many thanks, look forward to meeting you! Sarah Wetmore
