Dear parents, As an experienced babysitter I understand that you want the highest quality care for your children. As someone who you may be considering as an option to care for your children I feel as though it is important you know me on a more personal level. I started babysitting at the age of 12; which at that age was only really me looking after my two younger siblings. I have always been a fan of children and working with them so at the age of 12 I took the babysitting course and handed out flyers to get my name out and around to my neighbours. Being the oldest on my street and the only one of age to babysit it was easy getting jobs here and there. I became closer and closer with the children on my street which was a blessing and a curse, I had the kids running to my door almost everyday after school asking to play outside. I knew that they loved spending time with me almost as much as I loved spending time with them. On top of babysitting I have taken any opportunity to work with children in any jobs that I have throughout my working experience. When I worked at Portabellos; a restaurant close to where I live, I was the hostess and take-out girl. Whenever a family with children came in for their take-out order and had to wait I would talk with the children and ask them if while they waited they wanted to sit and I could bring them some things to colour with. When I got my job at Michaels craft store I always asked if I could be the one walking around the toy/craft department because I knew that that was where most of the children were going to be, soon enough my manager knew to just put me there. Finally my work as a Counsellor at a Christian Camp was one of my favourites. For two weeks every summer for the past three summers I have worked there and loved everyday of it. For my first two years as a counsellor working there I worked with approximately 7 girls varying in ages of 6-10. Knowing the ages in advance I was able to plan crafts accordingly and be sure to have things prepared incase we needed rainy day activities. At camp I was always collaborating with a team of peers in order to design and plan activities, I have implemented daily schedules at the camp, directed, supervised and cared for a cabin of young girls. I bring everything I have learned with me when it comes to babysitting. Just last summer I was a part-time babysitter for a family for the whole summer. I learned so much from all my experiences but this past summer taught me that even if the children are only two years apart it doesn\'t mean that they\'re into the same things. Sometimes I found it hard to coordinate a plan but found later that because one was into screen time and the other preferred crafts and outdoor games and adventures. I had to set a time limit on the amount of screen time that was allowed and then have a craft, activity or plan prepared for when that screen time was over. My past summer job with this family was my most recent experience related to a job like this one. There are two moms listed as my references and would be able to tell you the love and care I put into working with children. There are so many more experiences I could talk about and go on talking about forever but all in all, I wanted you as parents to understand my love for children. I wanted families to know that with the experience I have and what I can bring to the table your child/children are in great hands. If I am so lucky as to get the chance to meet your child/children I would love to know more about them, for instance, their interests, their likes and dislikes and anything you as parents would want me to know about them. I have both enjoyed and benefited from all my experiences with children, and look forward to new and exciting opportunities. I am very experienced when it comes to working with children, it has been something I love to do since I was of age to do it. My babysitting experience started with just looking after my siblings and then later expanded into being my summer job last year. For the past three years I have been a counsellor for 2 weeks at a Christian Youth Camp where I am in charge of up to 8 kids at a time, sometimes with, sometimes without another counsellor. The ages vary but for my first two years as a counsellor I was working with ages 7-10. My most recent babysitting was with a family this past summer part time. They were two very active boys ages 6 and 8. You wouldn't think that the two year age difference would make much of a difference but they both had very different ideas for what we should do that day. They 8 year old boy was all about playing gone 'screens' whether it be video games, computer, nintendo, wii..you name it he wanted to be playing it. The 6 year old was always wanting to be doing crafts and playing outdoors making it challenging to come to a conclusion of what we should do. I ended up setting a time limit for the amount of time the 8 year old was allowed on screens, once he had had that day's time he had to come and play with his brother and I. Mind you with the crafts, activities and games I always came prepared with I think he ended up liking his 'off-screen' time a lot more than his 'screen' time.
