Nanny in Halifax, Nova Scotia

I'm an
Individual
Hi there, my name is Emma, and I would love to become your family's Mary Poppins (although I don't have much of a British accent, unfortunately)! I've listed some facts about myself and my childcare experiences below: if you'd like to know more about me, I would love to have a chat with you to see if I would be a good fit for your family! I am 26 years old My degree is a major in biology, minor in neuroscience: I can definitely help out with science homework! I have my Emergency Childcare First Aid and CPR from the Red Cross (June 2015) Background and criminal record check complete and available upon request I worked as a swim instructor and lifeguard for 3 years with children of all ages I have experience working with children with special needs, including Down syndrome, autism, and ADHD: I also have experience working with children with simple behavioural problems, and am comfortable working toward solutions to these issues I don't believe in simple reward/punishment or old fashioned discipline styles: I believe that as soon as possible, it's good to speak to children about the realistic consequences of their actions, and that an approach of empathy, love and understanding is best. I worked as a full time nanny in New Zealand and Australia, for 4 months with 2 boys aged 1 and 3, and for 3 months with 2 girls aged 3 and 5. I can cook! I mean it! For real! I was a nanny on a farm in New Zealand, and cooked for the family plus farm hands every day! I can cater to any dietary restrictions that you or your children might have, and very much enjoy allowing the kids be part of the process in the kitchen: it is so important to learn to do things for yourself in a safe environment! I specialize in outdoor education: I ran outdoor day camps for a local nonprofit, which focused on learning about and respecting nature and the environment I believe that the individual interests and skills of the child should always be priority when deciding on activities for the day, and as I've cared for children that were all so different from one another I've acquired an arsenal of enough crafts, games, puzzles, day trips, books, snacks, and adventures for everyone! I am flexible, easygoing, and reliable: I am by nature occasionally a little scatterbrained, but that usually translates into my sense of humour and makes me pretty good at adapting and rolling with the punches that come with childcare, I think. That being said, I understand that in allowing me to care for your child, I undertake an incredible amount of responsibility, and I respect that by doing my utmost to provide a safe and fun atmosphere for your child. If you see something here that makes you think that your family could use someone like me, I would love to hear from you! Send me a message on this site and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Looking forward to meeting you!
