I am delighted to recommend Piyarut Hamathulin for the position of Child Caregiver. Pai was our au pair for two years, during which time she provided excellent care for our twin boys. They were 6 months old when she arrived and they are now over two and a half, so it’s easy to imagine how much her work evolved during that time and she always performed above and beyond my expectations. At the beginning, it was a lot of feeding the boys, bathing them, changing their diapers, keeping them safe as they learned how to crawl and started getting into everything. While they slept, she would do their laundry and some house cleaning related to the boys. As they got older, the work evolved and became a bit more complicated, but Pai was always up to the challenge. She would come up with all kinds of games that are both fun and educational for the boys. She would find ways to make everything fun for them, including cleaning up after their playtime. She would also take them to parks, the beach, play areas, etc. and wasn’t daunted by the fact that they often like to run away in opposite directions. Her personality is perfectly suited for this work. She is relaxed while very aware of what is going on at all times. She provides good, consistent boundaries for the boys and finds ways to turn even difficult situations into something fun. She has a good sense of humor, which she brings into her work. She is very responsible and always kept me informed about everything that was going on. If she wanted to take them out of the house, she would let me know where they were going and ask permission if they went somewhere new. She made sure that I knew the cause of even the tiniest scrape, bump, or bruise. At the end of each day, she provided me with a written report of what the boys ate, how frequently their diapers were changed, how long they slept for their nap, and an over-all rating of how the day went (on a 1-5 star scale). In addition, she would send me pictures and video clips throughout the day to keep me in the loop about their adventures, which really made me feel like I was a part of everything too. I felt completely comfortable and confident leaving the boys in Pai’s care. In terms of other skills that compliment this work, Pai is an accomplished cook. She regularly fixed meals for the boys and found ways to get our most difficult eater to try new things. In addition, numerous times she cooked a Thai meal to share with our family; a delicious and unexpected treat. Pai is also a competent English speaker and continues to work on improving her fluency. She has a passion for learning and a curiosity for language that makes it really fun to delve into the weird details of the English language. It was not uncommon for us to have long, detailed conversations on the topic. She is always open to feedback about correct phrasing or pronunciation. While she still has room for improvement, she is quite competent and has no problem communicating with me or with anyone she encounters when she is out. As an example of her skill and determination to learn the English language, Pai has a Washington State driver’s license. That may seem unrelated until you learn that the Washington State Driver’s Manual is not available in Thai. She studied the manual, took practice tests and the actual test all in English. We also had a number of very technical conversations about the rules of the road. Once she passed the written test, it was no problem for her to pass the driving test. Pai is a very responsible driver and regularly took our boys out during the day. I appreciate the fact that she is very safety conscious when driving our vehicles, particularly when our children where inside. The au pair program is designed to be a cultural exchange and, while it has definitely been that for us, it has become so much more. Pai is a member of our family. I know she loves my boys just as much as I do. I believe her experience taking care of my sons will make her an ideal candidate to be a Child Caregiver for another family and I would enthusiastically recommend her to anyone.
