In Pakistan, Maria Eloisa grew up like the other expatriate children whose parents were either diplomats, worked as engineers in international companies building hydroelectric dams, or worked in the hospitals or schools. Graduating from the International School of Islamabad, Pakistan she opted to return to her native land, the Philippines to learn more about its culture and people, as well as pursue her college education. She was in her second year of Pre-Medicine at the Far Eastern University, Manila when she married. She stopped schooling to be a full time wife and mother. When the children were school bound she too continued her education in the medical field at Unciano Colleges, Manila taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In March of 1990 Maria Eloisa graduated from Nursing, took the board exam in December of that same year and passed as a Professional Regulation Commission Nurse with license ID Reg. No. --.... Her post graduate course was Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from Centro Escolar University, Manila. As a single Mom, she continued to keep herself busy, joining the Junior Chamber International Philippines (JCI), an international leadership training organization and became the Charter President of JCI-Antipolo CityLights. She is also a member of the Philippines Nurses Association, Inc. and the Society of the Philippines, Inc. She toughed it out to also become a reservist in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and is a Mgt. Sgt. ML355340- A (RES). In 1993 Maria Eloisa put her skills to good use and worked for the ReachOut Education Foundation as the Project Officer for the UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) Reproductive Health Center and in the evenings volunteered for the ReachOut Mobile. After her tenure with ReachOut she continued her work with the Society of the Philippines, Inc. (ASP), as the Project Coordinator for the Media Project called Media Awards funded by the Ford Foundation and also as the Technical Officer for the ASP-UNFPA Project, funded by the United Nations. Her stay with the Society of the Philippines, Inc. was on a project basis so in 2010 when funding became available, she returned as the Project Assistant for the Department of Health-Global Fund Round 6 Local Government Unit (LGU) HIV Prevention Component project. When the project ended in 2012 she moved on to became the company nurse/ receptionist for ICS Translink (Phils) Inc. After fifteen years of being apart from her older sibling, they reunited in Edmonton, Alberta in 2014. Maria Eloisa is looking forward to upgrading and taking the Board Exam to become a Registered Nurse in Canada. She has a passion for doing volunteer work/ socio-civic community service, and enjoys traveling, cooking and swimming when she is not busy with family life and responsibilities. As a die-hard advocate for HIV/ and CANCER, she believes that service to humanity is the best work of life!
