Hi there! I am a 24 year old, male, child care provider living in Montreal. I am known by friends, co-workers and employers for my empathetic, non-judgemental and caring nature along with a professional attitude and great sense of humour. I have worked for the past four summers at Camp Towhee- an intentional residential treatment program for children and youth ages 11-18 with intellectual disabilities and mental health challenges. A lot of the work involves helping the youth develop social skills and self-esteem in peer and staff interactions, with an emphasis on transferable life skills and coping strategies. I have directly supervised groups through different camp wide programs and activities dealing with challenging situations that relied on my counselling abilities, organisational skills and leadership within the staff team. At Towhee we focus on a therapeutic approach to care, looking for meaning behind behaviour, I take this approach with me through any childcare. Active listening and having a caring, positive and encouraging approach with children is very important to me. I have lead groups of up to 30 children/youth in outdoor settings in my various experiences in outdoor education roles. Always with a strong focus on safety and fun! I also have 6 years regular babysitting experience with ages 0-13. I have experience helping with homework/teaching, gardening, cooking, cleaning, looking after pets.
