Nice to meet you! My name is Karrie. Who I Am: I am an educated and experienced childcare worker- once I graduate from UPEI (including a minor in developmental psychology) I will be moving on to Holland College's Early Childhood Education program to one day achieve my ultimate goal of having my own pre-school inspired in home daycare. While most of my experience is with school-aged children, I have also helped out in my employer's pre-school program and assisted in roles such as: helping the children eat, changing diapers, storytime, crafts, putting them to sleep, etc My skills: I am incredibly comfortable with pet care (as I have had both dogs and cats throughout my entire life), light to moderate housekeeping, meal preparation, homework assistance, crafts and activities, learning opportunities, documentation of what happened during the time your child was in my care (developmental milestones, concerns, activities they enjoyed, etc) When I can start: I'll be available as needed. As a school-aged educator (also acting as program coordinator) I have experience in several roles such as: program staff, one-to-one staff (working with children with autism and varying levels of support needed), as well as supervisor. In these roles I have been responsible for up to forty children (along with other staff) and ensuring the safety and well-being of each of them, I have experience planning and executing activities such as crafts (my personal favourite), experiments, and higher energy games, conflict resolution, intervening in outbursts/meltdowns, preventing/stopping harmful behaviors, preparing snacks, documenting feedback reports (for both positive and negative behaviors), having positive interactions and relationships with parents and guardians, etc. In a childcare role I always remember my own childhood role model: Ms. Honey from Matilda, I like to leave each child with positive memories and take a "gentle" approach in my methods, and I take great pride in being a positive person for children to come to.
