Nanny in North Vancouver, British Columbia
I'm an
Individual
Hello dear families!
I am an experienced early childhood educator and BC certified teacher. I speak fluent English, with French as my first language. The most important thing for me as an educator is to create a strong connection with every child. I go out of my way to create special moments, where the kids feel loved, appreciated and valued. I love to follow every child’s own rhythm through play while always fostering a safe environment. With me, your child will feel empowered and make lots of choices, yet know my clear boundaries and feel taken care of. One of my core values is answering every question. When I say something, there is always a reason, and your kids can expect to understand why.
With me, you child will...
- sign songs
- enrich their vocabulary, because I talk a lot with kids, even ones who don't talk yet !
- play outside, developping global motor skills
- use their fingers for little tasks to develop fine motor skills
- laugh!
- do arts and crafts
- be safe
- be loved
- get lots of positive reinforcement
- play pretend
- be active
- have lots of cuddles (only with their consent ;) )
- eat healthy foods
- be clean and comfortable
:)
About myself
29 years old, I am the oldest of a family of 6 children (see 3 of my young sisters on my profile photo!) I grew up taking care of young ones; I love it and it is part of me. I am mature and reliable, yet flexible and very playful :p. My partner and I call Vancouver home since 2019. I believe in living with a community of people, so we live in a shared house with a large garden and lots of communal meal-times. I value open communication and trust in my relationships. This year, I choose to work a 4 day a week position as teacher-librarian, because I want to have one day to volunteer at Loutet farm. Farming, which is all about growing food, is my passion! I love everything outdoors, like many of us on the north shore. Hiking with my partner on the sunny days, climbing indoors during rainy ones. I get around on transit and on my bicycle. Swimming in the ocean is what makes me fall in love with the Vancouver area every time!
Why would a school teacher want to nanny after school?
Right? One does wonder. First, because I choose to work 4 days a week, I am looking for another income. I started nannying in 2020 when I was off for the summer. I loved my past experiences as summer-time nanny, because I got to be close to kids on a different level than I do at work. I like being part of a family, for a few hours a week. Having no kids yet, and all my family being in Montreal, it is an experience that I truly enjoy! Working with one or two kids at once, instead of a class of 20, is much more personal and so it feels very different than my day job. It's kinda refreshing :)
Overview of my 14 years of experience working with kids:
From 2oo8, 5 years in summer camps, with a variety of age groups, ranging from 5 to 10 years old.
Summer camps have taught me many songs and fun outdoors games. I am comfortable with coordinating activities outside of the house, like going to the pool, aquarium, museums, etc. Alongside with all these other useful skills: Packing lunches, keeping safe on transit, applying sunscreen (yes, it’s a skill!), swimming, walking on sidewalks beside busy streets, doing arts and crafts, playing team sports, organizing treasure hunts, playing around with fun weekly themes… you get the idea of a summer camp!
For 2 years : Daycare on call, in various age groups, from 9 months to 4 years old.
Being in early childhood environments have made me skilled in : changing diapers quickly, preparing and overseeing mealtimes for little ones (from bottled milk to baby led eating, and food introductions as well as identifying and avoiding choking hazards), everyday hygiene like face and hand-washing and giving baths, nap time coordination (slowly wining down to lead to falling asleep), insuring safe play environments, free play, rendering entertaining stories with different voices and characters, the importance of routine. I love working motor and langage skills. I let kids move a lot and challenge them. I narrate the actions that they do and make up songs about what is currently happening. That develops loads of vocabulary and understanding of sentence structure.
For 4 years: Teacher On Call (while studying for my teaching degree, in Montreal). TOC has helped me develop strong educational skills, like : flexibility, compassion and understanding for a range of different children (from 5 to 12 years old). Leading a large group of students, teaching all elementary subjects, social-emotional regulation tips for children, planning and assessment, but most of all; seeing every playtime as an occasion for learning.
2019 – now: BC certified elementary school teacher working with Conseil Scolaire Francophone (CSF). I am available to do homeworks after school with your children, which would be close to a tutoring service.
Summer 2020: Part time Nanny with a 5 year old girl. We did lots of outings (like Science World, aquarium, cinemas, etc.), had outdoors picnics and played in parks. Lots of drawing and painting and inventing stories with out favorite stuffies.
Summer 2021: Part-time Nanny for a young family with a 9 month old girl. I am still in touch with this family and do occasional nannying for their now 2 year old daughter and 3 month old new baby.
Both of them would give great me a reference if you were interested :)
Looking forward to meeting your family !
