Nanny in Calgary, Alberta

Hi, my name is Colleen and I'm an experienced caregiver as well as a mom of two. I am university educated in a related field and I’ve worked with children for more than 29 yrs. I happen to think kids are amazing little people and I’ve made child development my career by choice not circumstance. I love what I do! I've worked as a nanny, as an Educational Assistant in a preschool, run a day home, been a behaviour therapist for child with autism, done freelance child development consultation, and worked for Alberta Health Services a Child Development Specialist in the Early Intervention program. I’ve also volunteered at the AB Children's Hospital, for Calgary Minor Soccer, our local elementary school even after my kids had moved to higher grades, local animal rescue groups, and more. I care about kids and have made this my career. I create a rich learning environment and provide consistent, loving care, meeting the needs of each child. I love to read, bake, play, get creative, go on adventures and interact with the kids. In a nutshell, I’m on the floor playing with your child, providing them with developmentally appropriate activities. I also love to sing songs (although I’m not the best singer) or get silly with them. For kiddos that need a little bit of extra care, I have worked on several multidisciplinary teams over the years and have helped implement developmental goals in speech, fine and gross motor skills, play, social skills, safety, and more. I also have experience working with multiples. I’m just in the process of renewing my police clearance with vulnerable sector check. I’ve previously had First Aid and CPR, level C, which is the same as required by childcare workers. During the pandemic my certification lapsed, but I was married to a paramedic and I likely have more training than someone who just took the weekend course. I am open to recertification for the right family. I also drive and have a vehicle if required. I am specifically looking for a childcare position, rather than housekeeping. While I can cook and clean, I know where my strength’s lay and I believe it’s working with kids. I will always try to leave a space better than I found it, and I don’t mind unloading the dishwasher or tossing the baby’s clothes into the wash for you, but I can best serve you by making the kids my priority. All that said, any tasks related to childcare, such as preparing bottles, making food for the kids, tidying toys, etc is absolutely fine. If you have pets, that’s great. I love dogs and cats and we foster for a local animal rescue group. I have no problem taking your dog with us on walks and I’ve even pet sat for several past families when they need to be away. For daytime positions my ideal position would be part time, about 16-20 hrs a week. Night time positions, such as a night nanny, I have open availability. That said, I can be flexible for the right family. My priority is finding a great fit with a family rather than getting the ‘perfect’ number of hours.
