Hello, families! I’m Michelle. I bring more than 10 years of professional experience as an Early Childhood Educator in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and am a certified Forest & Nature School Practitioner with the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada. I’m also a mother to a school-aged child, which continues to deepen my understanding of the joys, challenges, and relationships that shape a families capacity and wellbeing. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of building meaningful relationships with children and families from diverse backgrounds, abilities, cultures, religions, and socioeconomic circumstances. I approach each child with curiosity, respect, and a deep belief in their capacity to learn, contribute, and lead. My practice is rooted in the following beliefs: Children are capable, competent, and active participants in their learning. Child-led, self-directed play provides children with the time, space, and freedom to explore their interests, develop ideas, and learn within their individual growth zones. Risky, messy, and joyful play are essential to development. Opportunities to take appropriate risks, get messy, and challenge themselves help children to develop resilience, confidence, independence, and physical and emotional literacy. Children deserve genuine voice, agency, and respect. I believe in sharing power, responsibility, decision-making, and leadership with children in ways that honour their developmental stages and individual capacities. Our relationships with land and place matter. Land- and place-based learning fosters connection, belonging, reciprocity, community, and a sense of responsibility for the natural world we share.
