Nanny in Brandon, Manitoba

My name is Toni C. and I was born and raised in a small town near Hamburg, Germany. I was raised bilingual, being fluent in English and German, as my father is Canadian and my mother German. After completing my International Baccalaureate in Germany I originally had planned to be an au pair for a year abroad in North Carolina where we have family friends. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out so I decided to move to Canada instead since I am a dual citizen. I have been living on and off in Brandon for the past 10 years now. I wanted to get to know the other “half” of me, what it was like actually living in the country most of my family was from and not just visiting. Furthermore, I would like to tell you about my experiences with children. First of all, I have two younger brothers and my youngest one was only born when I was already 10 years old, so I helped my mom out a lot when he was still a baby and a toddler, putting him to bed, changing his diapers, looking after him in the afternoon, reading him stories, and so on. I also started babysitting when I was around 13 years old. I babysat children from the ages of 2 to 8 years, sometimes slightly older or younger than that. I would babysit at least once a week until I moved to Canada when I was 19. From that point I gained years of experience as either a full time or parttime nanny, looking after children of all ages, including newborns. Moreover, I actually returned to Germany for a little and worked at the maternity ward, assisting in delivering babies and looking after the mother and newborn baby right after birth. I just finished my BA in psychology, thus I haven’t had a nannying position in quite some time now, life without little ones around is just not the same. I love children because there is something very special about the way they look at life. I believe that the feelings of a child matter just as much as the feelings of an adult, if not more so because it comes truly from the heart, and they are still so open and honest about everything. Making children happy, makes me happy. Spending time with kids is one of my biggest passions.
