National Nutrition Month

March 4, 2015

Last month, we touched on healthy eating habits with Heart and Stroke Foundation’s advocacy campaign to restrict marketing of unhealthy food/ drink to children.  Our health and our children’s health starts with what we put in our body for fuel.  As March is national nutrition month, we’d like to share some tips to develop healthy eating habits.

Above you see Canada’s Food Guide – a detailed chart outlining different food groups and number of recommended servings each day for all age groups.  If you have a larger family, it can take time to educate yourself and others in your home.  There are many food planning apps for smart phones and nutrition calculators easily accessible on the net.

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for simple meal suggestions parents or caregivers can prepare for their families, including balanced breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for different age groups.  During the month of March, we are committed to helping you develop healthy habits for you and your families!
