Halloween Safety
It's getting dark outside pretty early now, so make sure your kids costumes aren't going to blend in with the night. Lots of cars and lots of kids will be on the road.
Wear bright colors, maybe even reflective clothing. Glow-sticks are awesome, and you can find them at the dollar store!
Try not to cross in the middle of the street, and don't forget to look both ways. If your children are older and going trick-or-treating without you, it's always a good idea to have a curfew or designated check-in time. Never enter a stranger's home, even if invited.
Make sure your kid can't hurt themselves or someone else with their props. ie: a sharp sword or long walking staff.
If you expect trick-or-treaters at your house, make sure they are safe to approach your property. Have a cleared walkway that is well-lit to your door, and don't leave lit pumpkins unattended.
You may even want to get a flame-less candle or glow-stick for inside your pumpkin. Keep pets inside, as they can be unpredictable when afraid or excited.
If you are driving your youngsters around, try to stay under the speed limit and watch out for children crossing the road without warning. Avoid driving through residential areas. If possible, park somewhere close by and walk to your destination.
Be sure to inspect the candy your children bring home before they consume it. Throw out anything ripped, opened, or homemade (if you do not know who it came from).
Have a safe and happy Halloween, and enjoy your night!
