Information about H1N1 is changing everyday. Those of us with children are especially nervous about this virus. Young children touch hundreds of things a day and put lots of wonderful items in their mouth; however, there are ways that you can ensure that your nannies are helping to prevent the spread of the virus. Hand washing is very important for both nannies and the children and should be done regularly throughout the day. Nannies should also keep hand sanitizer with them at all times and cough and sneeze into their arm, instead of their hand.
Nannies that are experiencing the following symptoms should discuss with the parents whether or not they should be coming into work:
- fever (however, not everyone with the flu will have a fever)
- sore throat
- body aches
- muscle or joint pain
- fatigue or tiredness
- runny or stuffy nose
- diarrhea and vomiting (sometimes, but more commonly seen than with seasonal flu)
If your child is experiencing any of the above symptoms, we would recommend that you as parents should be caring for your children if possible until all of the symptoms are gone.
