I supervised Lissa for 3 years while she worked as a tour guide for the Parliament of Canada in Ottawa. During that time I saw her work with a wide variety if visitors from almost any country in the world and any walk of life. At work, she would be responsible for offering guided interpretation inside the Centre Block of Parliament and interact with a wide swath of the 400 000 visitors that we greet annually.Ours is a stressful workplace, balancing the needs of the public, Member of Parliament and Senators and the heavy demands of security is no easy task. Despite these challenges, Lissa has always tended to the needs of her guests and ensured they always had the very best experience possible. What always stood out to me was Lissa's love of working with children. From toddlers to teenagers, Lissa always made an attempt to connect with youth on her tours, adapting content and learning styles to match their interests and make them feel included and valued. This desire to treat everyone equally and make people feel included extended beyond her work duties. In the years that I have known her, Lissa has used her passion for sports and her talents as an organizer to plan extra-curricular for her colleagues. As a programme that hires young students from across the country, many of our employees do not live in Ottawa and have few connections here. Lissa's efforts to get her colleagues out and socialising not only demonstrates her generosity of spirit but also an incredible amount of emotional intelligence. Lissa's dedication to the youth she works with does not go unnoticed.
