Nanny Job in Toronto, Ontario

We are looking for an ENERGETIC, ENGAGED, LOVING caregiver for our 2 boys for the summer of 2017. We live in Downtown Toronto in a cozy condo near the waterfront. We have 2 young boys (3 and 1) and a gentle old dog. We are looking for someone to come care for our boys FULL TIME until our youngest starts daycare in the fall. The hours would typically be 8-6, with some flexibility, and you would have paid vacation leave as well. Our eldest will be at summer daycare until September when he starts kindergarten, so most of the day will be spent with just our youngest. ABOUT OUR FAMILY: We are a young family with 2 energetic boys that keep us on our toes! Our oldest is definitely Spirited - he is intense, persistent, energetic, and sensitive; sometimes all at once! We have been using Mary Sheedy Kurcinka's guide (Raising Your Spirited Child) to help us understand what he needs and provide him with the tools he requires to be successful. We need someone who understands how to handle his temperament and work with us to nurture the great qualities he possesses. We are also committed to addressing behaviour consistently and are looking for someone who can be firm with boundaries while using a gentle approach. Like many 3 year-olds, he loves trains, cars and trucks; riding his bike; and going to the park. He loves to laugh and make other people laugh, he delights in little things, and has an opinion on just about everything! Our youngest is a fairly easy-going little guy, but will be entering the toddler years which bring their own set of challenges! He loves exploring, music, dancing and watching his big brother. He is an adventurous little guy with a definite sense of wonder - he is curious and active. He likes routine, and does well in one-on-one situations. He is often found smiling and giggling, but can get overwhelmed and lose his cool from time to time. It's usually not too hard to get him back to his normal self though! Ultimately, we are looking for someone who can build on the groundwork we have laid out in shaping the people our sons will be. We are looking for someone who is compassionate and nurturing; who can laugh with our kids when they're silly; who enjoys the early years and celebrates the little things with our family. Ideally you will have some experience with toddler and pre-school aged children, a willingness to blend into our family as an important member, and a deep held belief that children are to be loved and guided and encouraged to succeed. THE BREAKDOWN: We will need someone FULL TIME, with the expectation of working approximately 8:30-5:30. You will have Statutory Holidays off. We expect that you will take care of all childcare related activities during your working hours, including any school/daycare related pick-ups/drop-offs as needed. You will be required to run small errands and do light housework as needed, but your primary role will be to care for the children. You will be required to prepare meals for the children as needed, and will have to adhere to strict dietary guidelines as there are allergies in our family. You will be required to take our dog on 1 walk per day, though they do not need to be long walks as he is an older dog. He is a very gentle, quiet sighthound and will mostly sleep during the day. He doesn't play with toys or need any training etc., but we will ask you to monitor his water dish and take him out if he needs to go. We need someone to start immediately, and will provide at least 1 week of supervised training. We are TRANSIT ACCESSIBLE and DO NOT have parking available. We are within walking distance of many parks, activities and the TTC is at our doorstep. We expect that you and the boys will get outside as often as possible, and have memberships to the AGO and ROM that you are able to take advantage of. We are a SCREEN-FREE household, with the expectation that the children will be entertained through activities and play. While we understand that many people are connected to the world through their phones, we ask that you respect our family's boundaries when with the children. We look forward to hearing from you!
