September 2016 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: This letter serves as reference for Ms. Riley Adams. Riley has been a co-worker of mine since September 2015 where we worked together in a before and after school kindergarten classroom with Maple Tree Preschool. During this time period, Riley planned and implemented developmentally-appropriate learning opportunities that engaged the children in all domains of learning. She attended staff meetings as well as contributed to her on-going professional development, familiarized herself with and adhered to school safety policies and procedures and collaborated very well with the Kindergarten Team as well as other educators within the daycare/school. Through my observations in the classroom and within the preschool community, Riley has demonstrated great patience, respect and care when working with the children. She views each child as a capable, competent learner and honours student successes at various levels of achievement. Riley uses a play-based, inquiry approach through planned and spontaneous learning opportunities. She supports student learning with thoughtful open-ended questions and activities that engage a child’s natural curiosity to investigate and explore. Riley actively promotes a safe, healthy and quality learning environment fostering community building and student self-regulation. She fosters opportunities for student success guiding children to be independent and confident learners. Her keen observation skills, reflective practices and exceptional problem-solving skills allow her to react quickly to remedy unsafe conditions (e.g. spill on the floor, obstacles that may inhibit free movement within the learning environment) or to explore why a behaviour is occurring in order to give a child the opportunity to solve a situation and move towards self-regulation. Riley collaborates very well with the students and the kindergarten team to strengthen a positive and nurturing learning environment where student voice is invited and valued. Through observation, documentation and reflection, with students and colleagues, she encourages authentic and co-constructed learning opportunities. I believe Riley Adams to be an exceptional Designated Early Childhood Educator and would be a tremendous asset to any early childhood team. Riley is a motivated, reflective and critical thinker which helps her to adapt easily to a variety of environments and situations. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work with her and would welcome the opportunity to do so again. She is an individual I regard highly and is a valuable and contributing member to our community. If you have any questions or require further information, please contact me at your earliest convenience Sincerely, Stephanie Rivard Designated Early Childhood Educator (905) 213-3395 [email protected]
